More information about Marathon Bahamas, and the other races of the Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend:
Marathon Bahamas is held each winter in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, on a 26.2 mile course that treks through the city and alongside the oceanfront.
The course begins at Junkanoo Beach, moves through downtown Nassau, and then moves adjacent to the northern Shores of Cable Beach before finishing at Arawak Cay.
This year will mark the ninth annual running of the marathon, half marathon, and relay, and its eighth running and partnership with the 5K Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure (which takes place on January 13, 2018, the day before the Marathon Bahamas).
About the Beneficiaries supported by the Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend:
Proceeds from the Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend (which hosts the Marathon Bahamas) support several local organizations, aimed at cancer treatment and support programs.
These organizations include:
The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, a non-profit organization aimed at providing education about cancer, treatments, and support for its Cancer Caring Center which seeks to provide a “home away from home” for persons needing treatment, particularly residents from the Family Islands of the Bahamas.
The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, a non-profit that supports the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto Canada, helping purchase medical equipment and other resources for the centre.
The Sister Sister Support Group, an organization that offers a support and a positive environment for those whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.
And The Cancer Support Group of Grand Bahamas.
Alongside the Marathon Bahamas, The Bahamas Race for the Cure 5K celebrates survivorship of those who have overcome the fight against breast cancer, and remembers those who have been lost to the disease.
